Avnet is the second leg of the "Big Two" global broadline distributors, alongside Arrow. If you have read our vs Arrow, vs Mouser, and vs DigiKey articles, the natural follow-up is: "What is Avnet's angle, and when should I use Avnet specifically?" This article answers that.

The short version: Avnet's differentiation is in EMEA (Europe / Middle East / Africa) coverage and the embedded developer community (via Premier Farnell / element14 / Newark, acquired in 2016). If you are a European hardware team designing an embedded product, Avnet is purpose-built for that. If you are a mid-volume production buyer in Asia chasing shortage / EOL parts, that is where JingKeXin fits.

Quick Verdict (TL;DR)

Use Avnet for…Use JingKeXin for…
EMEA (Europe / Middle East / Africa) sourcing with local-language support and EUR pricingAsia-Pacific spot sourcing with 48-hour dispatch from Shenzhen
Embedded / SBC / development kit sourcing via element14 / Newark / Farnell communityShortage / EOL / obsolete part sourcing where Avnet's catalog shows zero stock
FPGA / SoC / ASIC design chain services via Avnet Silica (EMEA)Mid-volume production orders (50–10,000 pcs) without long-term contract commitment
Enterprise accounts with framework agreements and Net 60 termsAgile BOM gaps where 20+ lines need to be quoted in < 4 hours

1. Catalog Depth & Brand Coverage

Avnet lists approximately 1.0 million+ SKUs from over 800 manufacturers. The catalog spans semiconductors, passives, electromechanical, connectors, embedded modules, and complete IoT / system solutions. Avnet's emphasis is on "global broadline with vertical industry depth"—industrial, automotive, medical, and aerospace / defense verticals all have dedicated Avnet teams with curated inventory.

Avnet's combined catalog (including the Premier Farnell / element14 / Newark brands it acquired in 2016) gives it one of the deepest embedded + SBC + development kit catalogs in the industry. If you need a Raspberry Pi accessory, an Arduino shield, a NUCLEO board, or a development kit, Avnet has it in stock with same-day shipping in EMEA.

JingKeXin does not aim for catalog breadth. We focus on the 200+ mainstream brands (TI, ADI, ST, Microchip, NXP, Infineon, Murata, TDK, Vishay, etc.) that 80% of production buyers actually need. Our 200+ verified channel network sources the rest.

Practical difference: If your BOM includes embedded boards / SBCs / development kits and you are based in Europe, Avnet's combined element14 / Newark / Farnell network handles it in one quote. If your BOM is 95% mainstream ICs and passives for production, JingKeXin is just as capable and more agile.

2. EMEA Coverage (Avnet's Strongest Differentiator)

Avnet's biggest differentiation from Arrow is EMEA market density. Avnet Silica (the EMEA subsidiary) has 50+ sales offices across Europe, local-language support in 12+ languages, EUR pricing without FX hedging, and EUR / GBP / CHF payment terms. For European hardware teams, Avnet is the right call for procurement friction minimization.

Arrow also has EMEA coverage (Venlo, Netherlands hub), but Avnet's network in EMEA is denser and longer-tenured. For Middle East and Africa buyers, Avnet has distribution in Israel, Turkey, UAE, and South Africa, which Arrow does not match at the same depth.

JingKeXin is Shenzhen-based. We can serve EMEA customers (we ship DHL/FedEx to EU, UK, Israel, etc.), but lead time is typically 3-5 business days via air, and pricing is USD. For a European team that needs EUR pricing, Net 30 EUR terms, and local-language support, Avnet is the right call. For a production team that needs shortage / EOL parts sourced from Asia channels, JingKeXin is the right call.

Practical difference: For European / Middle East / African buyers with local-currency and local-language requirements, Avnet is built for that. For shortage / EOL parts that need Asia sourcing speed, JingKeXin is built for that. The two are complementary, not competitive.

3. Embedded Developer Community (element14 / Newark / Farnell)

Avnet owns the Premier Farnell group, which includes:

  • element14 — the global community for electronic design engineers, with forums, design challenges, roadtests, and a knowledge base
  • Newark — North American distribution arm (US / Canada / Mexico)
  • Farnell — European distribution arm (UK / EU)
  • element14 APAC — Asia-Pacific arm (China / India / Australia / Japan / Korea)

For a hardware team designing with Raspberry Pi, Arduino, NUCLEO, BeagleBone, or any popular SBC, the element14 community is one of the most active in the industry. Farnell and Newark have the deepest inventory of dev kits, breakout boards, and SBC accessories in the world. If you are in the design-in phase for an embedded product, Farnell (in Europe) or Newark (in North America) is the right channel.

JingKeXin does not carry SBCs, dev kits, or breakout boards. We are focused on production parts. If you need an STM32 Nucleo board for evaluation, Farnell is the right call. If you need 5000 STM32F103C8T6 for production, JingKeXin is the right call.

Practical difference: For embedded design-in and dev kit sourcing, Avnet (via Farnell / Newark / element14) is the right channel. For production sourcing of the same ICs in volume, JingKeXin is the right channel. Trying to use JingKeXin for dev kits, or Avnet for hard-to-find EOL parts, is a category error.

4. Pricing

Avnet uses volume-break pricing with deeper breaks than Mouser/DigiKey for very high volumes (10K, 25K, 50K, 100K+). For enterprise annual contracts, Avnet offers negotiated framework pricing that can be 5-10% below catalog spot prices. For one-off orders under 1,000 pcs, Avnet's pricing is similar to or slightly above Mouser/DigiKey. EUR / GBP pricing is available without FX hedging for EMEA customers.

JingKeXin's pricing is the spot-market price in USD. For common in-catalog parts, our price is usually comparable to Avnet's enterprise pricing on small volumes. For shortage / EOL parts, our price reflects the actual scarcity premium—and is often more competitive than brokers who mark up 2-3x.

Practical difference: For large-volume catalog parts with annual commitment, Avnet wins on framework pricing. For mid-volume production (50–10,000 pcs) and shortage / EOL parts, JingKeXin is competitive or better. For European customers needing EUR pricing without FX exposure, Avnet wins on currency.

5. Lead Time

Avnet operates regional distribution centers in the Americas (Phoenix, Arizona), EMEA (Poing, Germany), and APAC (Singapore, Hong Kong). For enterprise accounts with framework agreements, Avnet offers 1-3 day delivery in the buyer's region. For spot orders, typical lead time is 3-7 business days internationally. EMEA customers buying from Poing, Germany typically get 24-48 hour delivery on in-stock parts.

JingKeXin is based in Shenzhen and targets 48 hours from confirmed order to dispatch for in-stock parts. For Asia-Pacific customers, that is a significant edge on shipping time. For EMEA customers, shipping time is 3-5 business days via air. For shortage / EOL parts that need sourcing, lead time depends on the source channel—typically 5-15 business days.

Practical difference: For EMEA customers with framework agreements, Avnet is faster (1-3 days via Poing). For Asia customers on spot orders, JingKeXin is faster. For shortage / EOL parts globally, JingKeXin is faster because we can find them at all.

6. Shortage & EOL Capability (Where JingKeXin Fits)

Avnet is an authorized broadline distributor. They stock what the manufacturer produces and ships to their regional warehouses. If a part is on industry-wide allocation, Avnet will show it as out of stock, with no backorder or sourcing option. They simply cannot sell what they do not have.

JingKeXin is built for this. Our team handles shortage reports, EOL replacements, and obsolete hard-to-find parts daily. We track lifecycle status across TI, ADI, ST, Microchip, NXP, Infineon, and pre-position inventory on the brands with the most volatile supply. We can often find parts that are showing 26-week lead times or "not recommended for new designs" status, because the spot market still has them.

Practical difference: Avnet is the right channel for parts in active production and large-volume enterprise accounts. The moment a part goes on allocation or is announced EOL, Avnet's authorized network can no longer help—that is exactly when JingKeXin becomes useful.

7. Target Customer Fit

4-Question Decision Tree

  1. Are you based in Europe / Middle East / Africa and need EUR pricing + local-language support?
    • Yes → Avnet (EMEA Silica network).
    • No → Continue to Q2.
  2. Are you designing with Raspberry Pi / Arduino / NUCLEO / SBC and need dev kits / breakout boards?
    • Yes → Avnet (via Farnell / Newark / element14).
    • No → Continue to Q3.
  3. Is your part in Avnet's catalog with stock > 1,000 pcs and the order is > 10K pcs?
    • Yes → Avnet (framework pricing on large volume).
    • No → Continue to Q4.
  4. Is your part on industry shortage, EOL, obsolete, or showing 16+ week lead time?
    • Yes → Send the BOM to JingKeXin.
    • No → Use both: Avnet for the in-catalog high-volume lines, JingKeXin for the agile mid-volume and shortage gap.

A Practical Pattern: Avnet + JingKeXin Together

For most mid-to-large production teams, the smartest play is not "either-or"—it is a split strategy based on geography, order profile, and stage:

  1. Design-in phase (NPI): Use Avnet (via Farnell / Newark / element14) for dev kits, SBC accessories, and first-article components.
  2. Pre-production (pilot build): Use Avnet for the high-volume catalog lines under framework agreement, JingKeXin for the 10-20% of lines that are already showing allocation risk.
  3. Mass production: Use Avnet for the 80% in-catalog steady-state lines under the annual contract; keep JingKeXin on standby for the 20% that will inevitably go on allocation or get announced EOL over the next 12-24 months.
  4. EOL / obsolescence events: Use JingKeXin for the parts Avnet's authorized network can no longer source, plus for small-batch last-time-buy requirements that do not fit Avnet's enterprise MOQ.

This is how most of our long-term customers structure their sourcing. They do not choose between Avnet and JingKeXin—they use Avnet for the EMEA / embedded backbone (framework pricing, Farnell community, Silica design services), and use JingKeXin for the parts Avnet cannot deliver.

What JingKeXin Will Not Claim

  • We do not have a 1.0M-SKU global broadline catalog with embedded / SBC / dev kit depth. Avnet (via Farnell / element14) does. If you are still in the design-in phase with embedded hardware, Farnell is the right call.
  • We do not have a 50+ office EMEA network with local-language support and EUR pricing. Avnet Silica does. If you are a European enterprise with EUR terms, Avnet is the right call.
  • We are not the right channel for $1M+ annual framework agreements with multi-site delivery orchestration across EMEA. Avnet is.

What we do promise: stable channels, mainstream brand coverage, full-link traceability, and real spot-stock capability for the parts that have moved past the design-in phase and are now in production-or-EOL. If your problem is "I need a specific part, in a specific quantity, on a specific timeline, and the EMEA / catalog channels cannot deliver"—that is what we are here for.

Try It Yourself

The fastest way to validate the split strategy is to send the same BOM to both and compare:

  • Quote completeness (% of lines quoted)
  • Lead time on the lines you actually need fast
  • Total cost including shipping, payment friction, and rework risk
  • The number of "not found" lines in each quote

For BOMs with hard-to-find lines, our quote turnaround is 4 business hours. Send your BOM here, and we will tell you honestly whether we are the right call for it.
