2026 H2 Supply Chain Overview

In the second half of 2026, the global semiconductor supply chain shows structural differentiation: AI-related chip supply-demand remains tight, mature process supply is stable, and memory chip prices have risen significantly due to AI server demand.

Lead Time Status by Category (July 2026)

  • AI GPU/Accelerators: 20-24 weeks (NVIDIA H200/B200 continues in short supply)
  • HBM Memory: 16-20 weeks (SK Hynix, Samsung, Micron at full capacity)
  • Advanced Process Logic (3nm/5nm): 16-20 weeks (TSMC capacity tight)
  • Microcontrollers (MCU): 8-12 weeks (overall stable)
  • Analog ICs: 6-10 weeks
  • Memory (DRAM/NAND): 12-16 weeks (prices continue rising)
  • Power Management ICs: 8-12 weeks
  • Sensors: 10-14 weeks
  • SiC/GaN Power Devices: 14-18 weeks

Memory Chips: Core Battlefield of Supply-Demand Tension

The 2026 memory chip market shows unprecedented tight conditions:

  • DRAM: AI server general DRAM demand has surged since H2 2025, prices continue to rise significantly. HBM stacking layers increased from 12 to 16 or even 20 layers, capacity prioritized for HBM, general DRAM supply tightening.
  • NAND Flash: AI server SSD demand growing rapidly, prices up significantly since early 2026.
  • Impact: Memory chip price hikes push up costs for smartphones, PCs and other terminal products, Nintendo has raised Switch 2 Japan price by 20%.

Advanced Process: Capacity Expansion Still Can't Keep Up with Demand

AI server demand for advanced process logic chips is extremely strong, especially GPUs and accelerators:

  • TSMC: Arizona and Japan new factories progressing as planned, but capacity still cannot meet demand
  • Advanced Packaging: 2.5D/3D packaging (CoWoS etc.) capacity continues in short supply, main bottleneck for AI chip delivery
  • Samsung: Texas factory expanding advanced process capacity
  • Intel: Heavy investment in foundry services and advanced packaging

Mature Process: Supply Relatively Stable

180nm and above mature process supply is overall stable, lead times in 8-12 week range:

  • MCU, analog ICs, power management ICs supply sufficient
  • Some automotive-grade chips have slightly longer lead times due to demand growth (16-20 weeks)
  • Chinese domestic foundries (SMIC, Hua Hong) capacity utilization increasing

Procurement Recommendations

  1. Memory Chips: Order early, consider long-term agreements to lock prices
  2. AI-Related Chips: Plan 6 months ahead, build strategic safety stock
  3. Alternative Solutions: Evaluate domestic alternative chips (GigaDevice MCU, YMTC NAND etc.)
  4. Supplier Diversification: Avoid single-source dependency, build multi-region supply network
  5. Monitor Market Intelligence: Track WSTS, SEAJ forecasts, anticipate supply-demand changes

2026 H2 Outlook

SEAJ (Semiconductor Equipment Association of Japan) forecasts 2026 Japan semiconductor manufacturing equipment sales to reach 6.55 trillion yen, up 26% YoY, reflecting global fab expansion. 2027 equipment sales expected to further increase to 7.40 trillion yen.

Jun Okamoto, Executive Director and Partner at KPMG, stated: "At least until 2028, AI server-related semiconductor demand is unlikely to subside." But risks of memory chip prices suppressing terminal demand and geopolitical supply chain uncertainties need attention.
